Project Description

Nicktoons: Attack of the Toybots is a game sequel to the 2005 game Nicktoons Unite! and 2006 game Nicktoons: Battle for Volcano Island.

The game features a dozen playable characters from various Nicktoons properties of the time, including SpongeBob SquarePants, Danny Phantom, The Fairly OddParents, The Ren and Stimpy Show, My Life as a Teenage Robot, Invader Zim, Rocko's Modern Life, The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, Catscratch, El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera and Tak and the Power of Juju.

During this project our team had completed our transition to a fully continuous-build / continuous-testing process that allowed us to rapidly develop and QC the game, resulting in minimal downtime due to bugs and ensuring there was always a 100% playable build of the game at every point in the dev cycle.

My Role

My responsibility for the camera and cutscene systems continued from earlier projects, and I further developed the Event/Action gameplay tools that would now 100% replace our old object-oriented codebase with a component-based system where level designers could implement all gameplay mechanics and events without the need of a programmer. I prefer system that allow the artists to be artists, designers to be designers, and then programmers keep everything together and functional and make it possible for the designers to realise their dreams.
